COVID-19 : THE METHODIST CHURCH GHANA DONATES TO GOVERNMENT AND HEALTH AGENCIES

COVID-19 : DONATIONS BY THE METHODIST CHURCH GHANA TO MINISTRY OF HEALTH, NOGUCHI MEMORIAL INSTITUTE FOR MEDICAL RESEARCH (NMIMR), GHANA PRISONS SERVICE AND METHODIST HEALTH FACILITIES

As the world and Ghana strives to fight the Coronavirus COVID-19, The Methodist Church in an exemplary gesture, has presented numerous protective items to Government and Health Institutions to protect themselves during this Pandemic. The donation include two (2) drums of industrial Ethanol, 200 gallons of Sanitizers plus paracetamol and cash. The Donations by the Methodist Church Ghana were made to the Ministry of Health, Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), Ghana Prison service and the Methodist Health facilities.


Present at the ceremony were The Most Rev. Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo- Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Rt Rev Miachael Agyakwa Bossman- Administrative Bishop, Hon. Kweku Agyeman Manu- Minister of Health, Nana Kwabena Agyei Mensah- Chief- Director Ministry of Health, Dr Ken Sagoe- Director for Social Services of the Methodist Church Ghana, Patience Baffoe Bonnie- Acting Director of Health Ghana Prison Service, Prof. Abraham Kwabena Annan- director of Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), among others.


The Opening Prayer was made by the Administrative Bishop followed by a welcome address delivered by Nana Kwabena Agyei Mensah- Chief- Director Ministry of Health who applauded the Church for their prayers and donation.


Times of National crisis are times to show solidarity and generosity. It is on these side-lines that the Presiding Bishops mentioned that such crisis is God’s own way of calling attention of nations that he alone is the true God who must be honoured and feared and that all men must seek him.
According to the Health Minister, the Methodist church Ghana, is known for its social responsibility programmes. Thus, he appreciates that, this act of generosity is an indication that the church and the state have a greater opportunity to increase their collaboration.

The Methodist church Ghana as part of the donation couldn’t leave out its Health institution in rural areas such as Hweehwee, Wenchi, and others.in this coronavirus pandemic, all circuit health workers of the Methodist church Ghana will provide essential preventive measures as well as information to rural communities. Mr Enoch Sarfo the director for health and sanitation of the Methodist church outlined some of the measures put in place.


The donation includes GHC 20,000 to the Ministry of health, GHC 10,000 to the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), GHC 5,000 to the Ghana Prisons Service, and GHC 30,000 to Methodist Health Institutions. Other items include 2 drums of industrial Ethanol, 200 gallons of Sanitizers plus paracetamol. The cash price is for the purchase of items like liquid soap, tissues, hand gloves, masks, thermometers, veronica bucket etc
Charity work is foremost to The Methodist Church Ghana. The Church is always looking out to fulfil societal needs and to provide hope for life and in crises such as this.
All hand Sanitizers presented by the Methodist Church were produced by Kinapharma Limited.
